Ecostation
Brandon Blommaert
Ambleside Ecostation, 2009
This public artwork consists of five images of typical Alberta landscapes: the Rocky Mountains, Boreal Forest, Parkland, the Badlands and urban sprawl. The backgrounds are actual photographs, printed large enough on weatherproof material to cover large sections of the outdoor walls of the building. In these landscapes, Blommaert has digitally inserted characters- inventive creatures made from re-purposed garbage. The artist collected trash found on the street to create his sculptures, which is itself an ingenious and creative way to recycle. Brandon Blommaert's artwork challenges us to use our imagination in envisioning our future local environments and inhabitants.
